Fine Features, Turbo mode for 17-4PH V2 Stainless Steel

November 13, 2023

In 2022, Markforged unveiled an enhanced version of 17-4PH Stainless Steel known as 17-4PH V2 for the Metal X system. This updated formula was specifically designed to offer increased benefits to users by incorporating new features that enhance the functionality of the printed parts. The two additions are:

·        Fine Features

·        Turbo Mode

Fine Features empower users to successfully print smaller-sized features, while Turbo Mode enables faster printing of parts.

No changes are necessary to the nozzle or the other hardware to implement these new features. Customers will automatically receive these features through a cloud update, without requiring any additional actions. Subscribed offline users will receive these features aspart of their quarterly software update package.

Fine Features:

The introduction of Fine Features presents a new printing mode for 17-4PH V2 Stainless Steel material. This mode is chosen as a layer height option within the Eiger software, specifically for solid infill parts. Although opting for this mode may result in longer print times, it offers users the opportunity to substantially enhance print resolution, leading to improved surface finishes, dimensional accuracy, and the ability to print smaller features. Notably, this advancement greatly improves the print quality of fine-featured parts that previously experienced defects and enables users to create fine-featured parts that were previously considered unprintable on the system.

Turbo Mode:

The Turbo Mode feature available in 17-4 V2 Stainless Steel facilitates printing parts at a speed that is 35% faster than the base print mode, with the potential for even greater time savings in certain cases. This Turbo Mode significantly impacts the throughput of a Metal X System, enabling it to better align with the higher throughput of the Wash and Sinter processes. As a result, the printer's overall efficiency and productivity are improved, allowing for increased throughput and faster completion of the printing, washing, and sintering stages.
